Spaceflight Attorney

SUMMARY: The Spaceflight Attorney will handle a range of responsibilities from managing current contract requirements to negotiating agreements for spaceflight-related services. The Spaceflight Attorney will interact with NASA’s procurement office in support of company’s current federal contracts.

  • Research and monitor key federal, state, and local compliance requirements, whether industry best practices and guidelines or legal and regulatory obligations
  • Develop scalable and sustainable legal operations processes, programs, and tools to support the Department’s effective and efficient delivery of legal services
  • Support and advise internal clients, and assist other attorneys, on the development and implementation of enterprise-wide regulatory and compliance processes, programs, and policies
  • Advise on various transactional matters, including software licenses, cloud or software-as-a-service subscriptions, direct material sourcing agreements, and professional service contracts
  • Counsel cross-functional stakeholders on operational, technology, regulatory, compliance, and commercial matters

Education & Experience

  • Background focused on transactional or regulatory matters related to highly regulated areas such as human research or human spaceflight
  • Juris Doctor from top tier, accredited U.S. college or university and membership in at least one U.S. state bar (Preferably Texas, Florida, or California)
  • 3+ years of legal experience in house in the federal government or an aerospace or technology-focused mid-sized corporation with a focus on transactional and regulatory matters
  • Significant experience with U.S. government contracting, including Federal Acquisition Regulations and agency-specific regulations
  • Interest in process improvement for contract lifecycle management or compliance with a focus on automated solutions
  • Ability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Highly responsive and service-oriented attitude
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • An active security clearance, or the ability to obtain one, at Secret level or higher, is preferred
  • Experience with agencies such as NASA, FAA or DOT, or DOC highly preferred

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.


• Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

• Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

 Physical Requirements

• Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

• Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
