Purpose of the position
Will perform assigned mechanical engineering duties onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Assists in the planning and conceptualization of new products and product enhancements. Analyzes hardware, components, and mechanical systems for the development of new and/or support of current products. Provides mechanical engineering support in accordance with Annex 2 requirements in NASA FSS Contract.
Principal Responsibilities of the Position
- Assists in the planning and conceptualization of new products and product enhancements. Assists in mechanical design meetings to prepare project plans and objectives in conjunction with business development, product support, and other team members.
- Develops and analyzes mechanical designs for current and conceptualized hardware, components, and systems.
- Develops qualification test procedures and performs qualification testing. Conducts testing and integration testing for functionality and limits.
- Assists with review of and interfaces with suppliers, vendors/contractors, and cross-functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available in support of projects. Provides expertise to the team to ensure accurate production of the product(s).
- Research new technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.
- Examines and evaluates mechanical designs for feasibility
- Investigates troublesome HVAC equipment to build a legible report depicting recommendations to the customer
- Provide mechanical engineering support as required

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Four or more years of experience in mechanical engineering or product design and development.
- Experience working with mechanical design principles and practices.
- Experience working with product design principles.
- Experience working with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
- Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
- Must have the ability to communicate in the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
- Must have, and maintain, a valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
Special Knowledge and Skills Required
- Skills in computer-aided engineering (CAE) software such as NASTRA, FLUENT, ALCOR, MATLAB, etc.
- Pressure Systems code compliance
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Microsoft Office Suite is a must
- Organization and time management skills to maintain project deadlines.
- Interpersonal skills to interact with customers, team members, vendors, and contractors.
- Communication skills to interact with internal and external personnel and to convey project intent.

Preferences
- Prior knowledge of NASA site, and experience with working on government installations are preferred.
