Purpose of the position

  • Supervise employees in the day to day maintenance operations
  • Manage and supervise employees to include participating in the hiring process, training, conducting performance reviews, documenting employee actions and disciplining workforce as necessary after consulting with HR
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, assign work tasks and manage multi-craft disciplines to ensure execution of preventative & corrective maintenance tasks
  • Expedite, track, budget, and manage all costs associated with maintenance activities to include all labor and materials per work tasks
  • Identify and implement industry “Best Practices” for modernization and repair of industrial facilities, plant utilities, laboratories and office buildings

Principal Responsibilities of the Position

  • Supervise the workforce, schedule and assign work tasks
  • Ensure quality and completeness of work
  • Communicate the status of the work being performed with all involved parties
  • Develop strategic approaches to planning and implementing a consolidated maintenance program that maximizes staff utilization while minimizing the time required to execute the work
  • Plan, order, budget, and track materials and work with Procurement to establish Blanket Purchase Agreements for maintenance materials
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate utility outages and assist in writing and reviewing Utility Procedures (UP) for maintenance projects
  • Utilize maintenance scheduling software to plan, schedule and track all maintenance activities
  • Manage teams executing maintenance work to include analyzing workload requirements and scheduling maintenance activities for preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Analyze scheduled activities and adjust crews and tasks accordingly to accomplish all requirements
  • Serve as the Maintenance Supervisor during their absence

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university
  • 4 years of relevant job experience desired
  • 4 years supervisory experience required

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Capable of supervising and or working with multi discipline organizations (i.e. Operations, Procurement, Finance, Engineering, Maintenance & Rigging)
  • Must be fully versed in Microsoft Office software
  • Proficiency with CMMS software (Maximo preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Communicate effectively
  • Ability to read blue prints and architectural drawings
  • Ability to perform material take-offs

Physical and Site Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to pass Pre-Employment background, drug and medical screening
  • Position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires US citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a NASA/JSC identification badge to access the work site
  • Ability to operate office and field equipment as required by the position
  • Meet all physical demands of the position
  • Ability to conduct site visits to field locations (Utility Plants, Office Buildings, Laboratories, Electrical Distribution Switch Yards) to clarify requirements, materials, craft disciplines and work to be accomplished


  • Experience working and supervising in a Union environment
  • Strong background in use of CMMS
  • Experience in managing cohesively in a multi discipline organization

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The activities of the position range from extensive sitting or standing while working on a computer to a field environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, reaching, and walking demands. May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

The diversity of work conditions may range from an office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort to a field environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards.  May be required to work a flexible work schedule and alternating work days to meet mission and customer requirements.
